Urgent Warning: UAE Residents Targeted in Massive E-Fraud Scam—Are You at Risk?

Dubai, UAE – In a significant development, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) has issued a critical warning to UAE residents regarding a widespread e-fraud scam. The scam involves fraudulent text messages purportedly sent by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) to unsuspecting individuals. These messages falsely claim that recipients’ passports have been suspended, threatening severe penalties unless immediate actions are taken.

The ICP emphasized that these messages are deceptive attempts to extract personal information and financial details from recipients. They cautioned residents against clicking on any links provided in such messages, which could lead to compromising personal data or installing malicious software.

“This fraudulent scheme is designed to exploit fear and urgency among recipients,” stated a spokesperson from the ICP. “We urge all residents to verify the authenticity of any communication purportedly from government entities before taking any action.”

The warnings come amid rising instances of cybercrime targeting individuals through sophisticated phishing tactics. Authorities advise residents to only interact with official channels for government services and to report any suspicious messages to the relevant authorities immediately.

Dubai Police are collaborating with ICP to investigate these fraudulent activities and enhance public awareness of cybersecurity measures. They emphasize the importance of vigilance and caution in safeguarding personal information against such fraudulent schemes.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official announcements and to share this information with friends and family to prevent further incidents of fraud.
