Exclusive: Canada Opens Doors for Iranians – Extend Your Stay Without Fees

In response to ongoing instability and concerns following the tragic death of Mahsa Amini at the hands of Iranian authorities in September 2022, the Government of Canada has announced an extension of its support for Iranian nationals residing temporarily in the country. The new measures aim to ease the process for those wishing to prolong their stay in Canada amidst ongoing uncertainties in Iran.

Effective February 29, 2024, a temporary public policy has been established to waive specific application fees and streamline processes for Iranian nationals seeking to extend their stay in Canada. The policy applies to those with valid temporary resident status applying for extensions or permits related to study, work, or general residency.

Under the policy, exemptions are granted for application fees associated with temporary resident permits, extensions of temporary residency, work permits, study permits, and biometric information collection. These exemptions are subject to specific conditions outlined in the policy.

The policy applies to applications received on or after February 29, 2024, and will remain in effect until February 28, 2025. However, it is noted that the policy may be revoked at any time without prior notice.

The Government reiterates its commitment to supporting the Iranian community in Canada during these challenging times. It acknowledges the ongoing concerns of Iranian nationals wishing to remain in the country temporarily.
