Portugal continues to attract global investors looking for security, mobility, and a high quality of life in Europe. The Residency of Portugal by Investment program offers individuals and families the opportunity to obtain European residency through qualifying investments while enjoying access to one of the most welcoming countries in the European Union. With beautiful coastlines, modern infrastructure, excellent healthcare, and a rich cultural lifestyle, Portugal remains a preferred destination for investors seeking long-term opportunities.
The well-known Portugal Golden Visa program provides a flexible route to residency with minimal physical stay requirements. Investors and their eligible family members can live, work, and study in Portugal while benefiting from visa-free travel across the Schengen Area. Over time, the program may also lead to permanent residency and citizenship eligibility, making Portugal an appealing option for individuals planning for future global mobility and security.
The Portugal Golden Residence Permit Program offers foreign investors a structured pathway to residency in Europe through approved investment options. The program allows applicants to make qualifying investments in areas such as capital funds, scientific research initiatives, cultural projects, or business incorporation.
Portugal’s residency program is highly regarded because it combines lifestyle advantages with long-term opportunities for citizenship. Successful applicants receive residency rights that allow them and their dependents to legally reside in Portugal while traveling freely throughout the Schengen region.
Another important advantage of the program is the relatively low physical presence requirement compared to many other residency-by-investment programs. Investors are only required to spend limited time in Portugal to maintain their residency status while keeping their primary residence elsewhere if preferred.

The first step is to choose the investment type after retaining MICS and paying its initial professional fee.
The MICS processing team will provide the applicant with a precise list of civil and financial documents required by the government.
The MICS legal team will apply to get the applicant’s NIF (an individual tax identification number in Portugal) and opening a Portuguese bank account and the applicant must transfer the minimum investment amount to his/her bank account.
Once all documents are collected, the payment of the analysis fee must be paid to the government and then the investment will be transferred to the project account. This is when the complete application will be submitted online to SEF and MICS’s second professional fee will be due.
The client and dependent family members need to travel to Portugal for in-person biometric collection and original documents submission. This is when the approval fee must be paid to SEF.
Depending on the country of residence, the clients may need visitor visas to enter Portugal and MICS will provide required documents to support this request at the pertinent Portuguese embassy.
Temporary Residential cards will be issued within 20 working days after completion of the final approval is received.
Once the cards are issued, they can be collected in MICS head office, or they can be delivered to the applicants by registered mail. This is when the payment of MICS professional fee balance will be due.
